On behalf of Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands Golf Club, I would like to extend my thanks and that of all of our players for the excellent welcome and hospitality afforded to us on Saturday. The weather, of course, could have been better but it did not prevent us from having a superbly competitive match, played in the typical golfing tradition of excellent sportsmanship and good banter.
In the absence of the DD GC Captain, Graham Tate, it is fair to say that Vice Captain Dave Price performed the joint role of Captain and Vice Captain superbly. There was early morning speculation that the set up of the course (temps) may have had an impact on the Match, however, Dave intervened and the Matches were played on as many Greens as possible. Special thanks to you Dave, for this. In addition, I would like to add the comment that the condition of the Course was superb and a credit to your Green Staff.
The Nineteenth Hole equally did not disappoint with an outstanding post Match Dinner that observed all the traditions of the Matches between our great Clubs. However Dave, I am sure you will agree, the standard of joke telling could be improved!! Must do better next time!
The result of the Match was a well deserved 4 – 2 victory for DD, this was after DD racing to a 3 – Nil lead however, the gallant AG&WS team reduced this margin to 3 – 2 and the final result all hinged on the last Match. Therefore, I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate Dunstable Downs once more on your victory and look forward to a return Match in the future.
Kind Regards,
John Kelly
Vice Captain Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands Golf Club
