The weather was very spring like for the men’s match against John of Gaunt which set off the course to great advantage. The Hawthorns (May blossom) were a blanket of white and the trees were unfurling their leaves so the whole course looked a picture.
The greens were still a little on the slow side but were starting to show much more consistency of roll and it was felt that in two to three weeks time if we get a little warmth and rain then they will be excellent.
John of Gaunt Captain- Richard Kensall -remarked on the superb condition of the course however he was in a good mood as the visitors won by 5 matches to 3.
This titanic battle was prefaced by a superb breakfast and after the match the dinner – comprising an excellent rump of lamb was received extremely well by all.
Once again Richard eulogised on the quality of the cuisine.
The contest was tightly fought with the Captain and Vice Captain taking their match to the 18th and there were some notable victories however Dunstable in spite of being bolstered by 7 ex captains were second best on the day and need to start a winning sequence.
Everyone however had a thoroughly enjoyable day and are looking forward to the next match which is a mixed match against Welwyn Garden City on May the 1st.

Re John Hill’s comment – what is happening to our Club? Everyone who has played in these matches before knows that we provide Bucks Fizz for the 2 breakfast matches, as do our opponents when we visit them. Do we not care any more or can we no longer afford to treat our guests properly?
