The juniors took full advantage of playing the first leg at home by narrowly beating Sandy Lodge 4;3 on Sunday. In near perfect weather conditions, the top order struggled against a Sandy Lodge team that featured 3 x 4 handicappers. But word buzzed around the course that some of the team’s debutants were putting points on the board to bring the scores level. In the final match, Freya Daniels was just too much of a handful against her 11 handicap opponent winning 10 and 8! “She just chips and puts in everything” said her Sandy Lodge opponent staring at defeat on the 11th tee. Freya knew she had a good score and while her playing partner walked off on the 12th, Freya joined up with her pals and played onto the 17th, got changed to have dinner, and then went back out on the course afterwards to complete her card. “Can you add this up for me but I think this is my best ever score” John Wright, Vice Captain, said afterwards, “This was our first win in over 2 seasons” . All focus will now be on the away leg at Sandy Lodge in 2 weeks time.
Team: Brandon Black, Tom Howson, Luke Bissett, John Wright, Alex Tipping, Chris Aherne, Freya Daniels.
