Harleyford win on final hole to retain their ‘never lost at home’ record.

4 juniors enjoyed the warm and generous hospitality from Harleyford Golf Club on Sunday in the first round of the Poppy Golf  Tournament. The Harleyford juniors have never lost a match at home so we knew from the outset that it was not going to be easy. But playing on different courses is a superb way to broaden the golfers experience and when the boys were met by a security guard at the gates to the course, we knew that this was going to be a great course to play. It did not disappoint. The course was superb and in excellent condition and while the DDGC team were striking the ball well from tee to green the huge, undulating and fast greens proved to be a real test. The DDGC team of Luke Bisset, Robert Moseley, Chris Aherne & Alexander Winter won 14 holes but their opponents scored 15 to win the match on the very last hole.

Everybody enjoyed the day. It is hoped that DDGC will enter into a junior reciprocal agreement in the coming seasons with Harleyford. Their team will benefit from playing a downland course and I know that our team will look forward to returning.
