On a very windy and therefore challenging day for golf at South Beds GC last Sunday our juniors were competing in the first round of group matches in the Tavistock Trophy. As well as juniors from South Beds the other clubs involved in our group were Chalgrave Manor and (the current holders of the trophy) John O’Gaunt. The way the competition operates is that each team consists of six junior players and the two lowest gross scores are added to the two lowest nett scores (only four scores count) to reach a team total. The final result was as follows:
South Beds: 299
John O’Gaunt: 299
Dunstable Downs: 304
Chalgrave Manor: 345
Points are awarded when comparing your team score against that of the home club so unfortunately, on the day, we didn’t claim any points but we will have the opportunity to ‘gain revenge’ during subsequent matches and when it is our turn to host. Several players enhanced their growing reputations with fine performances including Alex ‘Tipper’ Tipping (another handicap reduction will be on the way) and Brandon Black but everyone in the team played their part and represented the club in an exemplary manner.
The team will be at John O’Gaunt this coming Saturday for round 2 of the group stage and we wish them well.
