Record turnout for trip to Abu Dhabi

17 juniors entered the May Monthly Medal obviously swayed by the thought of playing in the heat of Abu Dhabi. The weather conditions at DDGC were slightly different as the juniors were presented with a golf course with true fast greens but extremely windy and blustery conditions. Speaking to Phil Sutton, County Vice Captain and 2 handicapper, before the first groups went out he said, “This is going to be tough for everyone. If anyone breaks 90 they can consider that they have played very well indeed” Given that the section now boasts single figure players this was quite a statement and it was proven correct once again.

I would have said if anyone can go round with the same golf ball they have played well…but perhaps that’s how a higher handicapper on a  budget thinks!

The results are not yet known but there have been some excellent scores posted so I am also waiting with interest to see whose been cut and who will represent Dunstable Downs in the regional qualifier. Watch this space for news.

It was very tough today so well done to everyone who braved the conditions.

Next event: Tuesday 10th May 18:00 10 hole fiddle

To the Junior Committee – keep up the good work its great to see competitive teams representing DDGC at the Junior level in the game. Great also to see a growing level of junior entries in the recent swindle and medal competitions.
In the bar after Monday’s medal, it was great to see so many younger memebers gathered having played earlier in the competition – on a day when the conditions were fiendishly difficult for adults let alone youngsters!! Most of all it was good to see that a camraderie already exists amongst our junior members assisted in no small part by the active encouragement and interest shown in the junior scores by those parents who were present.
Keep up the encouragement and good work and the club will realise the benefits in the longer term.
