The last time the Scratch Team captain, Matt Oborne, played in The Scratch Team v The Juniors he was a junior himself. That was over 5 years ago and the fixture will now be firmly back on the DDGC golfing calendar. This eagerly anticipated greensomes event was keenly contested across all of the matches but the match between Freya Daniels & ‘in form’ Ashley Easton and Rob Sutton & David Taylor was undoubtedly the highlight. Watching Freya’s 5 wood approach shot on the 17th to within 5 feet of the flag drew huge applause from the watching gallery. On the 18th, Bob Buckland commented, “I think you will find that they have won” The body language and Freya’s jig were the giveaway signs.
Undoubtedly, the current crop of juniors gained a lot from the experience; 3 hour 18 hole rounds are possible! Many of the current scratch team were once DDGC junior members themselves and hopefully, in a few years time, it will be the juniors turn to represent The Scratch Team.
Our thanks to Steve Harris and Matt Oborne for making this happen and for The Scratch Team for giving up their time to support the juniors. Rookie Jack Flanagan’s summed up the evening best for me, “That was brilliant!”

I was at the club last night for meeting the air was alive with both the Juniors and the Scratch Team enjoying the banter.
Well done to all those involved in this event lets hope it continues on next year.
