We have a full and varied program this year; there are some competitions that I have made up, others that we have never used before and obviously all the regular qualifiers, medal,  trophies and cups. I have tried to expand the diary, so that events are more evenly spaced out, not too many qualifiers following each other week after week, but interspersed with some  ’ fun’ games.

We have 21 matches this year plus  a new one  with Stocks Golf Club who approached us to play a friendly match with them, as they have a new clubhouse and are trying to get established. I hope as many of you that can will put your names down for the matches. You can enjoy other company, other facilities and other courses, whilst flying the flag for DDGC.

The Bedfordshire Shield matches were started by me when I was Captain in 1985/6. At the time all matches ended with a cup of tea, cake and a chat, which was fine. But playing against clubs in Herts and Bucks, they play something called the Pearson Trophy, which was important to them and kept being referred to and I thought that matches between the Bedfordshire, clubs could perhaps do something similar, and so the Shield was born. It has changed format since then, and is played as singles match play of handicap,  I would very much like us to go up the league table a bit! Players of all handicaps are welcome to play in these matches, so please put your names down and with your help we will rise to the challenge.

It as funny to think that my grandchildren are as old now as my children were when I was captain last time. Hopefully they will be less trouble. It will be interesting to see how things have changed since then, or, indeed if they have.

We would welcome some new lady members, so if any of you know of any children,  grandchildren, friends or neighbours, or people interested in moving clubs, let them know that we would make them very welcome.
